St. Paul Emergency Dentist

When your tooth can’t wait until tomorrow

One call away
from pain relief

You don’t need to ride out tooth pain until regular business hours. At Saint City Dental, we reserve time slots every day specifically for urgent cases.

If your tooth is throbbing today, don’t wait until tomorrow. One of our St. Paul emergency dentists will talk you through the situation and, when needed, meet you at the office.

The technology that makes it possible

When an emergency hits, we lean on the same technology that streamlines all our care.

  • Digital x-rays let us spot fractures, infections, and abscesses in minutes, not hours.
  • Our 3D CBCT scanner maps the entire tooth structure when we’re diagnosing a complex root canal.
  • And because we have CEREC same-day crown capability in-house, a broken tooth that would take two weeks gets a permanent restoration before you leave.

What we treat in an emergency visit

Severe
Toothaches

Severe toothaches from infection or decay get same-day attention, often a root canal to eliminate the source of pain and save the tooth.

Knocked-Out
or Loosened Teeth

Knocked-out or loosened teeth have the best chance of survival if treated within an hour, so we move fast.

Cracked
or Broken Teeth

Cracked or broken teeth are stabilized with bonding, crowns, or temporary restorations, depending on severity.

Abscesses
and Swelling

Abscesses and swelling that signal infection are addressed immediately, sometimes with drainage, antibiotics, or endodontic treatment.

Lost Fillings
and Broken Crowns

Lost fillings and broken crowns leave teeth vulnerable. We repair or replace them the same day.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Do you see first-time patients for emergency dentistry in St. Paul?

Yes. If you're in pain, we don't ask whether you've been here before — we ask what's wrong and how soon we can get you in. Many of our long-term patients first found us during an emergency, and we treat every urgent case the same way: get you comfortable, solve the immediate problem, and talk through next steps once the crisis is handled. Our St. Paul emergency dentists make space in the schedule for same-day care whether you're a current patient or calling us for the first time.

What should I do if I have a severe toothache after hours?

Call our main number at (651) 224-0001. One of our doctors is on call and will walk you through what's happening and whether it warrants an immediate visit or can wait until morning. If you need to be seen right away, we'll arrange to meet you at the office. In the meantime, rinse with warm salt water, take over-the-counter pain relief if you're able, and avoid chewing on the affected side.

How much does emergency dental care cost at your St. Paul office?

Cost depends entirely on what treatment is needed. We'll give you a clear estimate after the exam and x-rays, and we accept most major dental insurance plans. If you don't have insurance, we take CareCredit, Sunbit, and other financing options that let you spread the cost over time.

Can you handle dental emergencies for kids?

Absolutely. Dr. McCarthy and Dr. Carpino both have extensive experience treating children, and we've built our pediatric visits to be calm and pressure-free. If your child knocks out a baby tooth, that's usually not an emergency — the permanent tooth will come in on schedule. But if a permanent tooth gets injured, or if there's swelling, bleeding that won't stop, or severe pain, call us immediately. We'll see them the same day and make sure they're comfortable throughout the visit.
